Italian NGO CTM and the Administration of the Hospital Al Fanar launched the “Rehabilitation and Support actions for Al Fanar Psychiatric Hospital in Zahrani”, a project funded by the Italian Cooperation Office of the Embassy of Italy in Beirut in the framework of ROSS Emergency Program for a total amount of 470.000 Euros.

The Director of Al Fanar Psychiatric Hospital, Ms. Samar Labban, and the Ambassador of Italy, H.E. Mr. Gabriele Checchia launched the start-up of  the initiative “Rehabilitation and Support actions for Al Fanar Psychiatric Hospital in Zahrani”, a project funded by the Italian Cooperation Office of the Embassy of Italy in Beirut in the framework of ROSS Emergency Program for a total amount of 470.000 Euros.  

The opening ceremony took place on October 24, at 4.30 p.m., at the Al Fanar Psychiatric Hospital in Zahrani in the presence of a representative of the Ministry of Public Health, number of Mayors, representatives of Lebanese Universities, local and international NGOs and various stakeholders involved in the sector.  

This project aims at restoring the basic hygienic conditions and capacity of hospitalization of the Al Fanar Psychiatric Hospital in Zahrani. In specific the initiative will provide the internal rehabilitation of the Hospital by (i) rebuilding the sanitary services, (ii) building and equipping of new kitchen and new laundry; (iii) installing a solar heating system and two new green houses. “The Al Fanar Psychiatric Hospital represents a significant and historical reality in the health assistance field in favor of the most marginalized and needy people”, said the Ambassador of Italy, H.E. Mr. Gabriele Checchia.   

ROSS Emergency Program is an initiative funded by the Italian Government since 2006. The main objective of its third phase in Lebanon is to contribute towards rehabilitation and reinforcement of basic services aiming at upgrading the living socioeconomic conditions through a process of local development in general and emphasizing on promoting environment conservation and gender equality.
