The Steering Committee of the General Directorate for Development Cooperation (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) has officially approved a substantial package of new development initiatives for a total amount of 4.800.000 Euros.

Implementation of the project “Application of the National Public Health Policy Concerning Maternal-Infant Care”, for a total amount of 1.300.000 Euros, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health. This initiative aims at implementing a basic package for maternal-infant care (prenatal, delivery and postnatal services) in the most underserved areas of Lebanon. The project activities will cover many health aspects including: (i) strengthening maternal-infant services in public hospitals, (ii) connecting good quality health centers to public hospitals (iii) strengthening the role of information technology as a support tool for midwives.

Implementation of the project “Optimization and Strengthening of the Touristic Offer of Baalbeck and the Higher Bekaa”, for a total amount of 200.000 Euros. This initiative aims at supporting the Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Baalbeck in strengthening the touristic potential of the area of Baalbeck and the High Bekaa Valley, by updating the National Master Plan and supporting small and medium enterprises.

Contribution to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the framework of the project “Water Table Map of Lebanon”, for a total amount of 1.800.000 Euros. The initiative aims at assessing the underground water management in Lebanon, through a number of map sheets covering Lebanon. The main goal of this project is to build a detailed Hydrogeological map of the country.

Contribution to the United National Industrial Development Program (UNIDO) in the framework of the Project “Community Empowerment and Livelihoods Enhancement Project”, for a total amount of 1.480.000 Euros. This initiative aims at improving the livelihoods of small-scale producers and the rehabilitation of war-affected agro-enterprises through community empowerment and promotion of partnership in development.
