Italy and Lebanon enjoy excellent cultural relations. As announced during President’s Sleiman visit to Rome in October, the bilateral agreement on cultural, scientific and technologic cooperation entered into force in December 2008. It will be implemented by an executive programme widening the range of our activities.
The agreement will further step up the teaching of languages, inter-university agreements, academic and student exchanges, school and university scholarships, joint research programmes, cooperation in the field of music, dance, visual art, theatre and cinema, archaeological research. It will also promote the protection of cultural, artistic and environmental heritage, facilitate the publishing and translation of important works, stimulate joint sport events and television programmes, and foster scientific and technologic research and development in various fields.
The Italian Cultural Center works as the cultural section of the Italian Embassy. The purpose of the Institute is to promote Italian language and culture and to strengthen ties and exchanges between Italy and Lebanon. The Italian Cultural Institute is the official link between Italy and Lebanon, provides information on Italian cultural life and institutions: the website (www.iicbeirut.esteri.it) is full of useful links, and will provide information on Italian language courses, inter-university co-operation, as well as on the various activities aimed at promoting Italian culture in Lebanon.
